Doubles play now available at South Hants

In line with LTA guidelines we are now allowing doubles play between different households alongside singles play. Play is still for members only at this stage.

We are sticking with two courts only as to give as much space as possible between players. Please see the rest of our guidelines in club documents.

There is also singles coaching available for members, see our coaching page.

If you would like to become a member and play some grass-court tennis please just get in touch!

Limited opening of the club from 30th May

After consultations through the committee, members and with the LTA, we are pleased to announce a limited opening of South Hants Lawn Tennis Club from Saturday 30th May.

Play will be open for members only, and in a limited format, during this initial phase of opening and in strict adherence to the guidelines as set by the LTA for playing tennis, coaching and as us as a venue, details of which can be found in the links below.

We are pleased to be in a position to offer tennis to our members again and hope to be able to open more widely when allowed and safe to do so.

Covid-19 impact on club opening

Our club will not be opening during this national emergency.

During these challenging and unprecedented times the Committee will continue to liaise and review the situation. All decisions made through this period will be in compliance with national rules and LTA guidelines.

When the situation changes we will update accordingly, and hopefully, we will be able to resume playing the game we all enjoy.

Thank you for your continued support and all the very best to everyone.

2020 Summer opening announced

It has been one wet winter!  We are looking forward to getting back on the turf to hit some tennis balls.

Our courts are due to open on Saturday 25th April 2020 from 2-5pm. Please feel welcome and come and have a go on our lush courts for FREE on this opening weekend. All abilities are welcome. This will be repeated on Sunday 26th April.

From this season, as well as access to our four grass courts, options to play for our mixed and men’s teams, membership will bring you access to the variety of coaching offered by Premier Tennis. Go to our coaching page for more information on this.

There will also be the added offer of an enhanced membership for both access to our grass courts on Northlands Road during the summer and the hard courts at Southampton Sports Centre throughout the year.

We look forward to welcoming you in April and throughout the summer.

Winter tennis for South Hants members

We are pleased to announce a further link-up with Premier Tennis for current South Hants members to offer low-cost winter tennis, based at Southampton Sports Centre.

Winter play for South Hants members will start on 1st October 2019 until 31st March 2020.

Fees:
Adult- £40
Child- £20 (18 years of age and younger)
Family- £80 (2 adults + 2 children, 18 years of age and below, and living at same address)

Three courts will be available for mix-in sessions. Timings will be every Tuesday & Thursday 6pm- 9pm and every Sunday 9am-11am.

An access code for the courts during these times will be given to members, after payment of the Winter Fee.

Floodlights included in membership fee.

Members need to provide their own tennis balls.

SHLTC members will also have 50% off court hire (£3 instead of £6/hour), for outside of mix-in use, via a special code for use on the booking website.

We really hope South Hants members will take-up this excellent, low-cost opportunity to continue to play tennis as a club through the winter months, in-place of having to book elsewhere.

The first mix-in will take place on Tuesday October 1st from 6pm, and we look forward to seeing you there!

B Team report – Winter Mixed League

Division 4

We’ve had a good opening first season in the new Mixed League and have thoroughly enjoyed the format. All our matches have been friendly and enjoyable, played in the usual mixture of rain, hail, wind and sun. In this division we played each team twice, which seems to have made it more intriguing and quite competitive for the second match! Also the ‘championship tie-break’ decider has been quite nailbiting at times! Fortunately, we seem to have secured enough points to move up a division next year, as with one match remaining we have won 3, drawn 1 and lost 1.

Many thanks to everyone who has played in the team.

Men’s Doubles – Winter League

Division 6

All matches played away as usual and while it was the winter league the first two matches in October felt warmer than the summer !

  • Romsey and Abbey :- Lost 5 to 4 very close and hot
  • Knightwood :- Won 7 to 2
  • Totton and Eling :- Drew 4.5 to 4.5
  • Thornden :- Won 5.5 to 3.5
  • Wellow :- Won 5 to 4 what a win !
  • Bassett :- w/o

A big thank you to the 9 players of many nationalities who supported the club , what colourful conversations! ( Italian, Polish, Mexican, Spanish, Dutch and a resident Scot )

Summary – won 3, drew 1, lost 1, w/o 1

This should mean promotion to Div 5 as runners up!
