Welcome everyone! Here’s hoping for some lovely summer weather with some long warm evenings and what could be better than having a game of tennis on the grass.
Let’s hope the worst of the wet is behind us and that we can enjoy another successful season. We hope to provide something for everyone again this year, with adult coaching, family coaching etc and we have brought the club tournament forward so that we can get as many people to play in it as possible.
There has been a small increase in membership fees and we are still looking for ways to fund the second part of the fence repair.
Please do your best to help out the Club teams by letting the team captains know when you can play.
So we look forward to seeing you again in April either at the cleaning day or over the opening weekend.
Geoff joined the S.H.L.T.C. in the mid 1970s as a young lad. When Geoff first joined, his play was characterised by his immense enthusiasm and his own inimitable style (which has not changed over the years!). Opponents could rarely read or anticipate the direction of his shots, causing frustration for them and amusement for us! Over the years he won the club championships many times, both singles and doubles, right up until his last season.
He was always a great ambassador for the club when playing in matches – thank you Geoff!
He was treasurer for a number of years and then took over the auditing of the club accounts and he helped to train and support various treasurers. He was always on hand to cheerfully help with all the various jobs around the club, particularly during the four years when we didn’t have a groundsman.
The Company Directors and the Committee of the club would like to thanks Geoff for all his hard work. Good luck with the golf!
To keep in touch over the winter months, when it’s too dark and wet to play grass court tennis, we organise some social events for members.
South Hants goes to the pub
@ The Crown Inn, Highcrown street, Highfield, SO17 1QE

We’re planning to meet at The Crown Inn pub in Highfield to talk about tennis or what we’re doing instead of tennis, have some drinks and some food as well, if you like.
New year drinks
@ Sandra’s house
Friday 31st January 2014, 19:30
It has become somewhat of a South Hants tradition to meet for drinks at the end of January, to celebrate the start of a new year, and catch up during the winter months. This year Sandra has very kindly offered to host us!
The South Hants LTC Annual General Meeting for 2013 will take place on Friday 6th December at 8.00pm, to be held at Kathryn & Malcolm’s House (check your e-mail the address, or ask a committee member).
Any member wishing to propose a resolution at the Annual General Meeting must send a copy thereof to the Honorary Secretary, three weeks before the Meeting so that provision may be made on the Agenda.
The Agenda and the Minutes of the 2012 AGM should both already be in your e-mail inbox!
What a great Summer!! Lots of lovely weather, plenty of play and I think, after the last few years, it was just what we needed.
In my opening report, I predicted an endless summer and it is still going strong now in October! It is always sad to see the light turn to dark with the prospect of winter on the way but at least it feels that we have had a decent summer.
My thanks as ever to Geoff for keeping the grass in tip top condition, to all the Team Captains for their hard work and to everyone on the committee who kept the club running smoothly.
Congratulations to all the winners of the Club tournament, I know we changed things around this year in order to try and encourage as many people as possible to take part and we will be reviewing the plans for the Club Tournament at our AGM in December.
Lastly just want to thank Hampshire L.T.A. once again for allowing us to keep the money that we should have paid back in the loan for the fence. Over the winter I hope to explore whether we can tap into other funding streams in order to replace the other half of the fence.
Do hope to see you all during the next few months, hopefully at one of the socials or at the AGM on Thursday 6th December (still plenty of shopping days left to Christmas!!)
We look forward to seeing you all soon.
Please note that there is no family coaching this week (28th July 2013), and that it will restart on Sunday 4th August at 11am. It still costs only £1 per player!
We are extremely pleased at the uptake with the family coaching. We hope everyone that has attended is enjoying it and are telling their friends about it 🙂
You can find more details about the family coaching in our previous post.
